Jinn is the last descendent of a powerful clan that thrived in feudal times. A group of men who wished to perfect the body as a weapon would succumb to the powers of a demonic entity, becoming barehanded warlords feared for generations.
The Onryō's power is forbidden in the modern times by not only the clan's rivalries, but the unaltered spirits of these warlords themselves.Jinn sets out to break this rule, and prove that demonhood is a viable path to true strength.

Backstory

His mother was hunted by family rivals, demanding this birth never happen. Natsuki was stubborn... His father was a ghost, fading into fog at the first sign of danger.
For his safety, he was left in America. An orphanage in New York, to be specific. Natsuki wished Jinn a normal life while she recovered from her pregnancy, soon she'd defeat those who wanted her, and her baby boy dead.His upbringing was rough, surrounded by rabid children and staff equally unkind. The boy was weak and frail, routinely beaten and starved by his supposed caregivers and peers. He was punished for no reason, only because those all around saw him differently.
The caregivers always seemed... off. Jinn was too young to make any sense of it, but they treated every child cruelly, it only seemed that he got the worst of it.
These consistent bouts of abuse left the boy with scars that spanned from mental to physical. Seeing people as generally dangerous, he distanced himself further from other life outside stray cats and cockroaches. They seemed to like him.Dream sequences brought him close to family in a strange way. His dreams were spiritual projections, where his forefathers would train him in the martial arts. Thousands of years of hand-to-hand knowledge were passed down over time and intense training. Eventually, Jinn would grow the backbone to defend himself.
The day would come when he snapped, though he was becoming knowledgeable in the martial arts, Jinn was very passive — but something dark always loomed beneath the surface. He recalled being held down, as he always was. After another sharp, cruel slash upon his chest, he finally lost it. Jinn began swinging at one of his caregivers, tackling them to the ground and swinging repeatedly at their face. He didn't care if they died, at that point. He just wanted it to stop.
After being ripped away and sedated, Jinn was left alone from that day forward.—; GO BE A STREET FIGHTERThat day, his love for fighting truly ignited. It was something positive was born out of an unfortunate situation, at least to him. So, Jinn took to the streets of New York to continue working on his fighting style. He made it a point to seek out some of the meanest looking people around, it was here that he'd establish himself as a fighting prodigy. His technique was unseen, and his strength at such a young age (14) rivaled even top athletes. He took up a style that was brutal yet lacked any true lethality. The young fighter didn't believe in killing.
Still, he didn't always use his ability for good. Being raised rough, he shoplifted and set fire to small abandoned buildings, he was always fast enough to outrun cops.Eventually, his gift for fighting reached the ears of a group known as the Legacy Association. They hosted a weekly underground tournament series, welcoming regulars and newcomers. A man who went only by ‘Marrow’ requested Jinn to join this tournament after seeing his skill in a street brawl. It didn't take much consideration, his career as a martial artist would officially begin.—; YOUNG TOP PLAYER.His first tournament went well, being at an obvious disadvantage. This kid hadn't hit his growth spurt yet, but his skill was solid. He hit abnormally hard at his age, and it seemed that no matter how hard he was hit, the young fighter kept getting back up.
Marrow was a promotor of sorts, on the surface. He was one of many, gathering fighters from across the world to compete in these tournaments. Each promotor handled a handful of fighters, Jinn being the newest to Marrow's crew.The kid didn't say a word, not even to Marrow upon requesting to join the tournament. He just walked away, and showed up when he needed to. Taking note of his distance, and that lonely aura, Marrow introduced Jinn to the rest of his fighters. They were all young men who wanted to be strong just as he. Still, it took months for him to break out of whatever muted state he was in.
He communicated with his fists, and as such, would fight all of these other practitioners at once. He showcased immense skill, impressing these older fighters but he was ultimately overwhelmed.He continued to train and further develop his skills, aiming to continue winning these tournaments. Blood, sweat and even tears were put into his style, honing in on a mixture of Kyokushin Karate and Muay Thai, and the varying attacks his ancestors taught him.Eventually, he'd become great friends with these fighters. Having found a family of his own and some cash from these tournaments, he bought a cheap apartment in Manhattan.
